Disorders due to aberrant lipid metabolism have resulted in a healthcare crisis in many parts of the Western world. This two day symposium will highlight the genetic basis of common lipid disorders, as well as state-of-the-art research on topics including, but not limited to, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), diabetes, and atherosclerosis. Current advances in the understanding of the 'metabolic syndrome', which is a constellation of multiple metabolic disorders, will also be featured. A session addressing promising drug targets will provide insight into the translation of basic research into medical practice for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. An international faculty of research leaders will present their most current data on topics relevant to disorders of lipid metabolism. The program agenda allows for networking and scientific discussion among junior and senior faculty.
