From Discovery To Application:Statement of Educational NeedTreatment of cancer is one of the greatest scientific and pharmaceutical challenges in history. Cancers comprise the second deadliest of diseases in the United States. In the U.S. alone, more than 1.25 million new cases of cancer are diagnosed and over 500,000 cancer deaths are recorded each year. Over the last two decades, despite intensive research on the mechanism and treatment of cancer, cancer incidence has not declined as expected. Instead the incidence is rising for most cancers and over 50% of adult patients are still dying of their disease. The need to focused attention on cancer therapeutics and an open discussion between members of all diciplines is critical.
