Endometrial Biology and Pathologies

Statement of Educational Need

The endometrium undergoes a complex and coordinated sequence of hormonally regulated events that are pre-requisite for the establishment of a successful pregnancy. If the uterus is compromised due to hormonal imbalances or disease-induced pathologies, implantation failure or pregnancy loss may result. It is estimated that 12-31% of all clinically recognized pregnancies are spontaneously aborted. Thus, a comprehensive understanding of the normal physiology of the endometrium together with alterations due to disease at the cellular and molecular level is essential.
